Boston Agency MBTA Hires Vendor to Extend Life of Existing Fare System, as It Waits for Cubic to Complete Project

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, or MBTA, in Boston recently approved another contract with Scheidt & Bachmann, as it seeks to extend the life of its existing fare-collection system until a delayed new fare system from Cubic Transportation Systems arrives.

The MBTA board unanimously approved a $51 million contract with Scheidt & Bachmann, longtime vendor of the agency’s closed-loop CharlieCard program.

Utah Transit Agency Hires Vendor for New Fare-Collection System

The Utah Transit Authority has hired fare-collection system vendor Scheidt & Bachmann to implement and host its new account-based ticketing system, including replacing all validators and ticket-vending machines and also swapping out its mobile-ticketing system, which itself was replaced on an interim basis last year.

Canadian City to Launch Its First Closed-Loop Contactless Card Rollout Today

Canada’s fifth largest city, Edmonton, launches its first electronic fare card today, with the closed-loop contactless Arc card becoming available for standard adult fares. An open-loop payments service will eventually follow, Cameron Grayson, director, transit innovation programs for the Edmonton Transit Service, or ETS, told Mobility Payments in a statement.
